What is the difference between polyester and polypropylene?
Polyester is much better at retaining any applied tension over long periods and is less susceptible to tension relaxation caused by increases in ambient temperatures. Polyester also offers higher recovery characteristics and stays tighter than polypropylene on packs that shrink or become compressed. UV resistance is also improved hence its popularity on product stored outside
What type of seal should be used with polypropylene strapping?
Choice of seal usually is determined by the type of tool being used. A general guide suggest that semi open standard smooth faced seals should only be used on very light packages. Heavy duty smooth faced seals are recommended for most applications.

What are the basic items to require if you are just starting out?
It would depend on the quantity and size of items being strapped. If you are only strapping a few items by hand then we would recommend the strapping starter kit, as this includes all items needed to start strapping. If you are looking at strapping high volumes of items, it may be well worth considering a semi-automatic or automatic strapping machine, as this is much quicker than doing each by hand.
How do you determine the proper number of straps per package?
It is up to the user to evaluate the suitability and safety of the individual application. Today all the "old rules" are changing as polyester is rapidly replacing steel strapping. The proper number of straps depend upon the load characteristics. Is the load shrinking, compressible, rigid, stable, expanding, etc.? How is the load to be shipped? Stored? Where? And for how long? The weight of the load is also important in determining the number of straps and break strength required. If you have any questions about this please feel free to contact us!
Is strap thickness a reliable indicator to strap strength?
No, not always, some straps are extruded with a thin base thickness and heavily embossed which increases thickness but reduces weight and strength thus making it appear to be a heavy duty strap. Strength depends upon a number of factors and is also linked to the weight of polymer/metre used to produce the strap.
Are there different grades of polypropylene strap?
Yes, strap is normally specified as suitable for hand tools, semi automatic, and automatic machines
